Coastal Commission Deems Poseidon HB Application Complete
California Coastal Commission staff has deemed Poseidon Resources’ application for a seawater desalination plant in Huntington Beach complete, clearing the way for the final hearings necessary for the plant’s approval.
“Poseidon appreciates Commission staff’s extensive due diligence in processing our CDP application,” said Poseidon Resources’ Vice President Scott Maloni. “The process has been extremely thorough, with commission staff providing input on the project to Poseidon and other permitting agencies on no less than a dozen occasions, and Poseidon providing staff with many detailed submissions and with voluminous information based on a decade of environmental and technical studies conducted by industry experts and leading scientists.”
Commission staff said the hearing for Poseidon’s Coastal Development Permit, the last approval required for the project, is expected in October or November.
Once completed, Poseidon’s Huntington Beach facility will provide 50 million gallons of drinking water daily. Construction is underway on a similar Poseidon project in Carlsbad. In addition to providing a drought-proof source of water, the Huntington Beach project will create more than 2,000 jobs.
